2002 Highlights:
Spent his fourth straight full season with Pittsburgh...Established club record for most appearances by a left-handed pitcher (previous mark of 76 was held by Rod Scurry in 1982) ... Became the first Bucco pitcher to appear in 70 or more games in three consecutive years since Kent Tekulve (1982-84)...Led all National League lefthanders in appearances and tied for fifth overall among all N.L. relievers...Tallied the second-most strikeouts by a left-handed reliever in the N.L. (Houston's Billy Wagner had 88)...Held opponents to team-low .220 batting average and topped the relievers in strikeouts...Was scored upon in his second game on 4/3 at New York and then made nine straight scoreless outings (7.2ip) from 4/4 thru 4/28...Earned victory in relief on 4/28 vs. San Diego (game one)...Did not surrender a run in his first 16 appearances at PNC Park (16.0ip) thru 6/22...Made nine straight scoreless appearances from 5/24 thru 6/11 (8.1ip), holding opponents to a .111 (3-for-33) average during that stretch...Worked less than 1.0 inning in eight of his 12 appearances during the month of June...Left the game on 6/20 vs. Oakland with a strained right arch without throwing a pitch...Suffered his first loss on 7/26 at Houston, his first defeat since 5/24/01 (a stretch of 97 games). ...
